01 · GET READY

Install and prepare

  1. Have a qualified installer check the bell, isolation, relay rating and electrical protection before powering the controller.
  2. Download the APK on a compatible ARM64 Android phone. Open it and, if Android asks, allow installation from the browser or file manager used for this download. You can turn that permission off afterwards.
  3. Open QTRON and enable Bluetooth. On Android 12 or later, allow Nearby Devices. On Android 7–11, allow Location and enable Location service for scanning.

The controller operates low-voltage relay-driver signals. Mains bell wiring must be handled by a qualified installer.

02 · CONNECT SECURELY

Pair your phone

  1. Hold the physical STOP button for 5 seconds until a four-digit PIN appears. The Bluetooth LED blinks quickly.
  2. In the app, scan for QTRON_BELL_XXXX and choose your controller. The pairing window lasts up to 60 seconds.
  3. Enter the displayed four-digit PIN in the app. The app prefixes 00 and lets you copy the six-digit code. For example, 4826 becomes 004826.
  4. Paste or enter that six-digit code in Android’s system pairing prompt and confirm Pair. The app does not fill that prompt automatically.
  5. Wait for the app to read the real device status and configuration. Successful authenticated pairing closes the window; release STOP before ringing.

When you reopen the app, it tries to reconnect to the last verified controller. Bluetooth must be on and the controller nearby.

03 · YOUR TIMETABLE

Set the clock and weekly bells

  1. Open Settings and sync the RTC from your phone. The controller keeps local IST time with its DS3231 clock.
  2. Open Schedule, select a weekday and add bell times. Choose SHORT or LONG, and enable the events you want. Copy a day’s schedule to other weekdays if needed.
  3. In Settings, adjust SHORT and LONG durations. Defaults are 2 and 6 seconds; the device enforces a maximum of 10 seconds or a lower configured hardware cap.
  4. Choose Save to Device and wait for the commit acknowledgement and read-back verification before disconnecting.

App clocks show AM/PM. Schedule editors use 24-hour HH:mm. The controller display uses a 12-hour clock without an AM/PM indicator. Saved schedules continue offline without your phone or internet.

Restarting, syncing the clock or saving a timetable does not replay missed bells or trigger an immediate current-minute catch-up bell.

04 · SPECIAL DATES

Exam Mode and holidays

On supported firmware, open Exam Mode, enable it and select exam dates. Add SHORT/LONG events with optional labels. You can group morning and afternoon sessions and reuse a preset or copy a schedule.

Save to Device and wait for verification. On selected exam dates, the saved exam schedule replaces the weekly timetable. Other dates use the normal weekly schedule.

  • Holidays suppress automatic exam and weekly bells.
  • Global schedule OFF suppresses both automatic modes.
  • Manual SHORT/LONG and STOP remain available, subject to device safety interlocks.
  • If Exam Mode editing is disabled, the connected firmware has not advertised support.

05 · EVERYDAY OPERATION

Buttons and indicators

MANUAL: press and release before 1 second
One SHORT bell.
MANUAL: hold for 1 second
One LONG bell starts while held. Releasing does not ring again.
STOP: press
Stops an active bell and inhibits ringing while held.
STOP: hold 5 seconds
Opens pairing. Pair within 60 seconds; the window closes on successful authenticated bonding.
Bluetooth LED
OFF: disconnected. Steady ON: connected. Fast blink: pairing mode.
Clock shows ----
The RTC is absent or time is invalid. Automatic bells are suppressed; check the clock and sync time after the RTC issue is resolved.

App SHORT, LONG and STOP provide the corresponding nearby Bluetooth controls. Avoid repeated taps; wait for device feedback.

06 · MAINTENANCE

Update firmware when needed

The Android app includes a firmware bundle. In Settings, review the installed and included versions, then explicitly choose the firmware update action. Keep the phone nearby, Bluetooth enabled and controller power stable until the app reports completion.

Installing or updating the app does not automatically update the controller. Ringing is inhibited during provisioning and firmware transfer. Disconnecting, cancelling or pressing physical STOP cancels an uncommitted transfer.

NEED A HAND?

Quick troubleshooting

My controller is not visible

Check power, Bluetooth and app permissions. Move closer and scan again. For a new phone, open the physical pairing window with STOP.

Pairing fails or the phone was replaced

Hold MANUAL and STOP together for 10 seconds, then release both. This removes saved Bluetooth bonds while preserving the clock and configuration. Forget the old phone bond if needed, then pair again using the new displayed PIN.

A scheduled bell did not ring

Check valid IST time, global schedule enable, event enable, holidays and the effective weekly/exam mode. Release STOP and finish pairing or firmware update work. Missed events are not replayed.
